Get Healthy Through Gardening - Food Preparation: Then and Now

Join University of Missouri-Extension and learn how to create and maintain a home garden, grow nutritious fruits and vegetables for your family, and gain nutrition knowledge that helps you and your zucchini thrive. Engage in fun, hands-on gardening activities at Felix Valle House State Historic Site to promote physical health, wellness, and demonstrate technical skills amongst the vegetables. Participants that join us for at least 6 lessons will be able to receive a free small appliance of their choosing courtesy of the University of Missouri- Extension partnership. Please wear sturdy shoes that can get muddy. Youth programming and games will be provided simultaneously (no registration required), so the whole family is welcome. Garden class is for ages 17+, registration is required.


notes We will explain food safety basics for harvested vegetables and fruits. In addition, A Felix Valle State Historic site staff member will provide a special presentation of historic food safety tactics, and a tour of a 1840s kitchen.
