Tour admission fees vary depending on age, from free to $5.00. Tour includes indoor and outdoor steps, uneven surfaces and standing for periods of time. Limited bench seating is available along the tour. Most of the tour is indoors, but we do walk half a block between the two buildings and spend time in the garden, so dress appropriately for the outdoors, in layers.
Through guided tours of two historic houses, visitors experience the daily life and traditions of German immigrants to Missouri as it was in the mid-19th century. In 1836, the German Settlement Society of Philadelphia was formed to create Deutschheim (German Home), a place where German immigrants could live much as they had in the old country with the freedom to practice their own German traditions and language.
Tours begin (check in) at the visitor center located at 101 W. 2nd Street.
