Join us as we celebrate a new year in nature! As part of America's State Parks First Day Hikes initiative, park staff will lead a rugged 3.1 mile hike on the Ozark Chinquapin Trail at Big Sugar Creek State Park on New Year's Day. First Day Hikes offer a great opportunity to get outside, exercise, enjoy nature, and welcome the new year with friends and family. Meet at the Ozark Chinquapin Trailhead at 10:00 am. This trail is known to have water at several creek crossings during wet weather. Waterproof boots are strongly recommended. Parking is available at the trailhead, and there is a pit toilet at the trailhead. This event is free and open to the public. Pets are welcome as long as they are on a leash. Please dress for the weather, wear closed-toe shoes, and bring water and snacks. Registration is required. Please visit https://mostateparks.com/FirstDayHikes to register. For more information, call the Roaring River State Park naturalist at the Ozark Chinquapin Nature Center at 417-847-3742 or the Roaring River State Park office at 417-847-2539.
